Video Archiving Techonlogy Group
The Research & Development of Technology Division of the National Digital Archives Program has developed advanced technologies for managing digital video archives. With these technologies, we can build indexing systems for the fast retrieval of digital video content, and also add value to applications of the content.
The architecture of our digital video archive system is comprised of the following processes: 1) collating films, 2) capturing digital video content, 3) processing and analyzing video content, 4) building databases, and 5) adding value to digital content applications. We have established a complete digital video archive system by integrating and developing the technologies of video format transformation, video shot detection, video abstract extraction, key frame extraction, metadata searching, full text searching, voice searching, streaming video format, and a nonlinear online editing tool.

DRM Working Group
The Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program (TELDAP) in Taiwan has amassed a rich collection of cultural and historical relics. These assets are digitized in order to make a better preservation, while at the same time make them more accessible for users. However, digital contents in digital world differ from objects in real world, it can be easily copied, altered, and distributed to a large number of recipients, which could possible cause copyright infringement and revenue losses to content owner. Digital Rights Management (DRM) is the chain of hardware and software services and technologies governing the authorized use of digital content and managing any consequences of that use throughout the entire life cycle of the content (defined by IDC). Here, We integrate digital watermark, cryptography, information protection technology, and rights model to construct a DRM system. In this rights enforcement environment, digital content can be accessed only when certain usage rules are satisfied. Furthermore, a tracking spider will automatically surf on the Internet, and detect the illegal usage of digital content. With the protection and management of our DRM system, the abuse of digital content can be effectively alleviated.

Digital Image Archiving Technology
Digital Image Archiving Technology is the image file management system that supports Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program (TELDAP). Its major purpose is not only to preserve valuable antiques and their relevant information with texts, images and videos, but also to integrate with archiving systems to establish related applications. The system is special in that users can upload images of any size through Web-FTP interface. Images can be viewed, rotated, and zoomed out without losing their originality online. Watermark and the size of transformation can be configurable to enhance the DRM function of watermark and the efficiency of images searching. It also provides the functions of file management and system rights management; users can arrange image files at their wish and operate the system at ease. This system is established with professional technologies, centralized and efficient hardware and a large amount of multimedia data. It provides the most efficient mechanism of data management and multi-oriented processing services of multimedia.Our long-term goal is to maintain the stability of the system and to provide users with all essential functions.

Digital Archives System main element & module
The development of the technology aim at comprising common, important module of Digital Archives, in order to reuse in follow-up related system. The module being exploited in separate element can reduce repeating development and enhance system's safeguard. Present developed components included: string process, XML document process, timing process, Chinese word missing process, HTML website process, authority control process, multimedia process, data base access, data transfer process, etc. Also including authority control module, code administration module, journal management process, etc.

Archive Resource Identifier
Archive Resource Identifier System , ARI , is a system which has been named unitary according to Digital Archives System. The architecture and analysis technology of the system are modify from CNRI’s Handle System (http://www.handle.net), and could be extended becoming Uniform Resource Name, URN. This system can provide content holder convenient and efficient manage system; and provide content user convenient and fast searching method.

Digital Archives Union Catalogue establish technique
Union Catalogue main function is to let users retrieve the book reservation achievements of national program. The main function of the searching system include: digital information combine with subjects, times, region, archives unit, it can also use simple retrieval or precise searching to find information. Furthermore, every participated unit can decide the information they provide on the internet public catalog depending on their authorities and copyrights. There are 12 subjects: The animal, the plant, geological, the anthropology, the file, the map and the telemetering image, the inscription on stone tablet and bronze develop the piece, the rare book ancient book, the archaeology, the utensil, the calligraphy, the painting and the news. 8 archives institution: Academia Sinica, Nation Museum of Natural Science, National Palace Museum, National Taiwan University, National Museum of History, Academia Historica, Taiwan Historica, National Central Library, and 50 archives program.

Chinese Missing Character
When integrating missing words with Digital Archives System, we use Academia Sinica’s bibliography laboratory word forming method to be the exchange code, which structure is basic on Chinese word forming theorem, dividing Chinese words into the smallest components, then scrape them together. Using finite components can express tens of thousands of Chinese words, and there will be no more lack of exchange code. Moreover, there has provided the small seal script, the kaishu, and the variant form correspondence at present. The general purpose of this research is to solve the missing word problem on the internet, then integrate those substantial results into each digital archives system. There are some detailed descriptions about integrating mode, integrating procedure, and difficulties which has been met, and we wish it will supplies some helps on the missing words research.

The basic purpose of this research is to show ODAE’s system frame design and process, exploited by Academia Sinica. There is also an introduction about functions and characteristics of the system, by the way of sharing their experiences, they wish there are some examples to refer while designing advanced Digital Archives Environment in the future.

Digital Media Automatic Converting Technology
Sound and Image occupy most of data in Digital Archives Program, and these data are most in form of MPEG, which is not suitable for internet browse and broadcast. In order to let users watch these data, our team develop an multimedia converter, which can convert MPEG files into MP2, WMV, RM, and others type of files suitable internet browser. Although there are already many multimedia converting software on the market, but most of them can neither handle with the form with multi-bandwidths, nor convert the file into many form at the same time. The multimedia converter development is according to the requirement of TELDAP, which can cope with multi-bandwidths data type, and can also convert a files into many different form at the same time.
